Currency / Payments

The Greek currency is Euro (€). If you want to exchange you can do it either at the airport (easier) or visit an exchange spot near your hotel.

Credit card payments are well-established in Greece. You may pay with a credit card at any shopping mall, tourist shop, or restaurant. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check which type of credit card (e.g. Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, etc) are accepted at each shop beforehand.

The majority of people speak English pretty well but if you want to try to speak Greek, here are some common words in the Greek language as well.

  • Yes - Ναι ( naí )
  • No - Όχι ( óchi )
  • Good morning  - Καλημέρα ( kali̱méra )
  • Thank you - Ευχαριστώ ( ef̱charistó̱ )
  • Hello - Γεια σας ( Geia sas )
  • Where is the bus stop - Πού είναι η στάση λεωφορείου (Poú eínai i̱ stási̱ leo̱foreíou)
  • Ticket - Εισιτήριο ( Eisitírio )
